The original prairies in Illinois have pretty much disappeared, but areas,
especially around Chicago, have been working to restore them by taking out invasive plants and re-seeding and re-planting native plants. These photographs are from a small restored prairie in a residential area in a NW suburb of Chicago. The best time to see prairies is in August and September when the plants are in full bloom.
